Yala Peak (5,732m) lies in Nepal’s Langtang Valley, close to the Tibetan border. It’s one of the easiest trekking peaks in Nepal and a great choice for beginners who want to experience Himalayan climbing without technical challenges.
You’ll also need a Langtang National Park entry permit and a TIMS card.
Spring (March–May): Clear skies, stable weather, and blooming rhododendrons.
Autumn (September–November): Crisp air, great visibility, and comfortable temperatures.
Winter climbs are possible but colder, and trails may be snow-covered.
Tea houses are available throughout the trek until Kyanjin Gompa, the last village before base camp.
At Yala Base Camp, camping is required. Meals are freshly cooked by the crew, and clean drinking water is provided or boiled.
Yala Peak is considered a non-technical peak, suitable for trekkers with good fitness levels.
Prior high-altitude trekking experience (like Langtang Valley or Annapurna Base Camp) is recommended, but no previous climbing experience is necessary. Basic mountaineering instruction (use of crampons, rope, and ice axe) will be given by the climbing guide.
The peak reaches 5,732 meters, so proper acclimatization is key. Most itineraries include rest days at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) before heading to base camp to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
Essential gear includes:
Wi-Fi and mobile networks are available in lower parts of Langtang Valley but become limited after Kyanjin Gompa. Guides carry satellite or radio communication for safety during the climb.
Comprehensive travel insurance with high-altitude rescue coverage (above 6,000m) is mandatory. It should include helicopter evacuation in case of emergency.
Climbing Yala Peak must be done with a licensed climbing guide. Porters assist with luggage, and the guide ensures safety, route setting, and weather assessment throughout the expedition.
